Fabric Spray Paint For Furniture
Fabric spray paint is a great way to update your furniture without having to reupholster it. It's also a relatively inexpensive way to change the look of your furniture, and it's easy to do yourself. Here are the steps on how to spray paint fabric furniture:
Materials:
Fabric spray paint Primer (optional) Clean cloth Painter's tape (optional) Drop cloth or plastic sheeting
Instructions:
1. Clean the furniture. Remove any dust or dirt from the furniture using a clean cloth. If the furniture is heavily soiled, you may need to wash it with a mild soap and water solution. Allow the furniture to dry completely before painting.
2. Apply primer (optional). Primer helps the paint to adhere to the fabric better and can help to prevent the paint from bleeding through. If you are using a light-colored paint, you may not need to apply primer. However, if you are using a dark-colored paint, primer is recommended.
To apply primer, hold the can about 6 inches from the fabric and spray in even strokes. Allow the primer to dry completely before painting.
3. Protect surrounding areas (optional). If you are concerned about getting paint on surrounding areas, you can use painter's tape to protect them. Apply the painter's tape around the edges of the fabric and any other areas that you do not want to paint.
4. Spread a drop cloth or plastic sheeting around the furniture. This will help to protect your floor from any paint overspray.
5. Shake the can of spray paint thoroughly. Hold the can about 6 inches from the fabric and spray in even strokes. Apply thin coats of paint, and allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next. The drying time will vary depending on the type of paint you are using.
6. Allow the paint to dry completely before using the furniture. Once the paint is dry, you can remove the painter's tape (if you used any). Allow the furniture to cure for 24 hours before using it regularly.
Tips:
Test the paint on an inconspicuous area of the fabric before painting the entire piece. This will help you to ensure that the paint does not damage the fabric.
Use a light touch when spraying the paint. Applying too much paint can cause the fabric to become stiff or cracked.
Allow each coat of paint to dry completely before applying the next. This will help to prevent the paint from peeling or chipping.
Once the paint is dry, you can protect it with a fabric protector. This will help to keep the paint from fading or staining.
